To our beautiful Black people:
It seems that our world is currently undergoing two pandemics: corona virus and racism. As black students of the SLU community, it is we who are suffering from injustices surrounding the murders of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd just to name a few. Police brutality has taken away mothers, sons, wives and beloved friends from families all over the country. The killings are senseless and we demand the murderers of these individuals be prosecuted and charged properly. Until they see our skin, they cannot see us. Remember that you are who you are, and no one can change that. Be proud of your complexion and the beauty that comes with it. We understand the constant struggles that face our community while attending a predominantly white institution. We want you to know that we are here for you and will listen and advocate on your behalf when necessary. The year of 2020 has left a mark on all of us. As young people, we will remember the year of 2020 as a movement of change. We are educated individuals who have the capacity to be and do anything. Although times may be uncertain, know that we hear you, we feel you, and we are here for you.
Love,
The Black Student Alliance Executive Board
