What is the Black Student Alliance?
The Black Student Alliance (BSA) of Saint Louis University is an organization like no other. As a chartered student organization (CSO) on Saint Louis University's campus, we offer a wide variety of activities throughout the academic year. We are a representative student organization that provides an open forum for dialogue for our constituents, a voice for the opinions on affairs of the University concerning African/African American students, and upholds the ideas and values of the Jesuit Catholic mission.
What does BSA do?
Every year, BSA holds a variety of events, from social gatherings to political discussions on hot-button issues. During Black History Month, BSA presents a number of educational and exciting events which features displays of talent, forums and world-renowned keynote speakers! BSA is very interested in academics and community service, so we host service projects all year long, ranging from academic tutoring to highway clean-up! Our members enjoy fellowship through parties, BBQs, socials and much more. In addition, we sponsor formal activities such as The Harambee Ball, the traditional BSA formal.
Part of the BSA mission is to learn and educate about issues and cultures of African American peoples. We have chosen to do this by visiting sites that are culturally important to African Americans. On these trips, the SLU community go on tours and visit museums that will educate us about African American culture. Afterward, we discuss the visited sites and learn about aspects that affect African Americans.
The Executive Board and members of the BSA invite you to become a member and share in the heritage of this organization.
