Summary
LUMINOS is a novel satellite-based system designed to enhance our understanding of Earth's atmosphere. The project integrates a satellite network capable of transmitting laser beams through the atmosphere and the SOHIP device located on the International Space Station. By measuring the refraction of these laser beams as they pass through different atmospheric layers, LUMINOS enables the creation of detailed vertical atmospheric maps. These maps provide key information on temperature, pressure, density, and atmospheric gravity waves, offering a new perspective on atmospheric dynamics and variability.
