Project Overview:
To design, build, test, and launch an exhibition flight at the Experimental Sounding Rocket Association (ESRA) Spaceport America Cup. This is the world's largest intercollegiate rocketry engineering competition, or IREC, and is held in New Mexico at the site of Spaceport America's headquarters. While not competing in the competition, the ESRA Rocket Team will be attending the event with an experimental flight that will be flown separately from the competition. This experimental flight is meant to celebrate Saint Louis University's bicentennial and will be flown to an apogee of over 40,000 feet. The rocket will be equipped with cameras to capture pictures of the flight from multiple angles. The purpose of this competition is meant to raise enthusiasm for amateur rocketry as well as provide engineering students with an opportunity to apply their knowledge in a real-world design and build scenario. The ESRA Rocket Team will be building this experimental design in conjunction with SLU's Rocket Propulsion Laboratory (RPL), who are also attending the competition with a rocket entry of their own.
