Hello and welcome to my webpage! Thanks for letting me share a little about myself....
I grew up in Chicago and yes, I am a die hard Bears and Cubs fan (sorry Wisconsin fans). I graduated from Dominican University in 1994 with a degree in Art Education with a minor in Business and Marketing. Shortly after receiving my degree, I had my first child and became a full time stay at home mom (the hardest job of my life so far). Within the next few years I added 3 more little ones to the crew. While I was a stay at home mom, I still was able to substitute teach for schools in DuPage County. I had an opportunity to long term sub in an self contained LD/BD high school for a year which I loved doing. It was a challenge everyday but was so very rewarding.
In 2002 I became a business owner of a gas station in Trevor, Wisconsin. The following year we added another gas station in Twin Lakes and moved up to Wisconsin. My children began attending Riverview School where I became active in the PTO as well as the youth football league. With the change in the economy in 2008, I went back to my love...EDUCATION. I began working with the Special Ed students at Riverview. From there, I was involved in the RtI program helping students to reach their goals and grow in reading and math. While working as an RtI interventionist, I was also able to teach Robotics as an elective to 7th and 8th grade students.
In 2011 Riverview made the switch to become a Google for Education School. Being very familiar with Google, I began working with teachers and students on how to use Google and Gmail and began teaching technology classes in kindergarten through 8th grade. After finding technology to be my new passion I went back to school and received my Masters in Instructional Technology from Wisconsin Lutheran College in May of 2015. I am currently working towards my library media specialist certification and in addition to my technology roles, have taken on being Riverview's LMS.
My 4 children have all since graduated from Riverview School and Wilmot High School, 3 have married and have made me a "Grams" as well. I am a HUGE animal lover. Currently I have 5 dogs (I'd have more if I could), a bird, 2 turtles, a Bearded Dragon, a Panther Chameleon and some extremely large fish. In my spare time I love spending time in my yard and bird watching. I am also an avid crafter and will try my hand at almost anything. From stain glass and quilling to crochet and sewing, I have tried it all including furniture building. My newest obsession is my Cricut machine. You can see my handy work around Riverview on walls and bulletin boards.
In addition to teaching, outside of Riverview, I was the President of the Wilmot Jr. Panthers Football and Cheer Organization (formally Bulldogs) and a board member for 20 years but just retired inorder to spend more time with my kids and grandkids. I also coach cheerleading at Riverview. I hold an AIC certification and am certified in Cheer and Dance through the National Federation of High Schools. With my involvement in both football and cheer, I am also concussion certified.
I am passionate about providing opportunities for our students to find their niche and have a well rounded education. I try to help to do that by being an advisor for Drama, Yearbook, Coding Club and Young Authors. I love being able to provide these experiences for our Riverview Students. I am a lifelong learner! I truly live what I teach and try to learn something new everyday. It is my hope to pass on this love for knowledge to my students. Please see my Philosophy of Education below.
