Honor Code with regard to Computer, Internet and Electronic Files and Documents

Cheating, plagiarism, and copyright infringement are not tolerated at Silverdale Baptist Academy (SBA). The Internet has made file and document sharing and copying easier, and as such, students need to be aware of potential Honor Code violations with regard to such practices.

Honor Code and Plagiarism:

The act of plagiarism is a severe form of honor code violation that constitutes intellectual theft. Plagiarism occurs when a person presents someone else’s work as his/her own.

Whether a student:

    • copies an assignment or part of an assignment

    • downloads material from an Internet site

    • shares assignments and/or electronic files or documents (text, presentations, spreadsheets, etc., in whatever form)

    • uses a cut and paste system for creating electronic documents

    • edits a shared electronic file or document and/or uses any portion of that electronic file or document for his/her own work

A student has committed plagiarism and would be subject to an honor code violation if they engage in any of the above. Students should get permission from the appropriate faculty teacher/monitor beforesharing any class assignments with other parties.

All parties to plagiarism are equally guilty, regardless of whether the student gives, shares, makes available or uses another's work.

Consequences for Violation of Honor Code

  • 1st offense: Parent conference, behavioral probation, Saturday school/out of school suspension

  • 2nd offense: Expulsion according to Administration discretion

  • Honor code violations are cumulative per a students SBA career
