Dear Families,
This year each student will have the goal of reading 20 books by the end of June. Students may check books out of the library, from my classroom library, or purchase books from the Scholastic Book Club. Purchasing books is optional--a decision you would make as a family. Reading was such an important part of my childhood. I still have my third grade copy of Charlotte´s Web purchased from Scholastic MANY years ago. It's always exciting when the Scholastic book boxes are delivered. With every book ordered, I receive bonus points and use them for books requested by my students. Seeing a child light up and walk away with a new book in hand, talk excitedly about their turn to read a classroom favorite, or watch a child proudly carry their newly purchased and delivered books to their locker is a gift. It's often a highlight of my day, that is to catch my students in the ¨reading zone¨ or discussing a book when they don't know I'm listening.
The more books read, the richer a person's vocabulary, a greater understanding of people from all walks of life, higher test scores, and more importantly the development of a lifelong habit, even love, of learning.
Happy reading to all!
Mrs. Erno
