Have Your Voice Heard in the General Election!
There will be a General Election on 4th July.
One of the key values that The Sheffield College (especially the Students' Union) encourages among students is ‘Active Citizenship’ both within and outside of the College. Voting in elections is a key way to be an active citizen and have your say in democratic processes that will affect you. We highly encourage you to register to vote, and if you are eligible, to vote on 4th July.
Register to vote - To vote in the General Election, you have until 18th June to register to vote. You can register to vote if you are 16 or older (although you cannot vote in England until you are 18) and it only takes 5 minutes.
You can also register to vote by post or to have someone vote on your behalf - if you want to do this, please be aware that the deadlines are different (you can find out more below). Make sure you are registered, and that all of your information is up to date!
Voter ID - You now need a valid form of ID to vote, this includes a passport or driving license. The accepted photo IDs can be found here
If you don't have one of these, you can apply for a FREE form of valid ID before 20th June by clicking below.
The College is also hoping to host a Hustings Event in June - this is where local political candidates will answer questions posed by audience members. If you are interested in attending should this event go ahead, please email us at studentvoice@sheffcol.ac.uk
More information about who the candidates standing in your area and who you will be able to vote for can be found below - happy voting!
