Reading/Language Arts:
Fountas and Pinnell Assessments – Used to assess current reading skill growth throughout the year
Title One Services – Mrs. Kramer/Mrs. Snyder– Reading Specialists supporting our students
Reading Workshop – students read developmentally appropriate self-selected materials, we will be working on goal setting and reading outside of school throughout the week- a reading goal will be used
We use the units of study reading workshop model. This focuses on improving reading skills for both literature and nonfiction texts. While reading literature students will work on word solving, vocabulary development, envisioning, prediction, thinking critically about the text, and how the characters and plot develop in a story. While reading nonfiction students will work on identifying main idea and details, recognizing text structure, comparing texts, and thinking critically about the text.
Writing Workshop - writing workshop that will focus on process writing (narrative, persuasive, expository), phonics instruction, vocabulary development
Homework – please look for independent reading goals your child will bring home (also posted to Class Dojo daily - please see sign up information for daily updates)

Eureka Math
Topics: multiplication, division, time, geometry, area, perimeter, fractions, liquid volume and mass, data
Basic facts – addition /subtraction facts will be reviewed daily, multiplication/division will be introduced later this year (flash cards will come home for study purposes) – strong fact fluency allows for a deeper development of other math skills
Homework – math homework is assigned purposefully
Technology - we will also be using 99 math, Zearn, to enhance our learning outcomes
Content: Science and Social Studies: (6 week units)
Science curriculum – Mystery Science – plant growth and development, weather and climate, environment and traits
Social Studies- geography, world cultures, economics, civics and government, Native Americans, colonial America, pioneers, and immigration
