Writing Workshop

This year we will continue to use the Lucy Calkins Writing Program.  Students should be familiar with the program from their fifth-grade writing experience. Although some work may go home, most of the writing will be completed in class.  Genres will include:

Narrative Writing

Argumentative Writing

Informational Writing

Writing about things that have special meaning to the writer make writing more meaningful, not to mention easier.  Students are asked to keep a writer's notebook. This notebook is a place for them to write down ideas, thoughts, and writing tips. 

On each major writing assignment, students will participate in an individualized conference with the teacher to talk about their writing strengths and discuss ways to improve their writing.
