Preschool Philosophy

We believe what children learn is influenced by a combination of genetics and environment. We accept each child as a unique individual. Each child’s development (cognitive, social, emotional, and physical) will be encouraged and the curriculum will nurture and facilitate growth during each stage.

We believe children learn through play. Play is a source of fun and pleasure, a way of practicing and perfecting skills and gives children a chance to use their imagination in creative and dramatic play. Play is a way of social learning, a way of emotional release or expression and a way of communication. Play is a child’s world.

We believe the strength of the program is based on the teaching staff. Teachers view themselves as facilitators and create a supportive climate that encourages self-discovery, experiential learning, freedom of choice, individuality, and cooperation with others.

We believe families are the most significant adults in a child’s life. There will be a mutual respect between families and teachers. Daily communication will be encouraged between families and center staff.

We believe the environment should be safe, clean, organized, and inviting to children. The facility will be arranged to offer challenging and stimulating play, by providing learning choices ranging in developmental levels. “Interest Centers”: allow children the opportunity to explore, experiment, and to make choices.

We believe in a positive method of guidance and discipline. Consistent, age appropriate limits will be established to help children function in their world. Praise and encouragement of good behavior is stressed. Firm, positive statement or redirection is used whenever possible. When necessary, there will be brief supervised separation from the group. No form of physical punishment is allowed. Our early childhood program is designed to help children develop a sense of independence, responsibility, and decision making skills.

We believe the child’s culture should be respected in order to build self-esteem in each child and instill an acceptance for others.
