The littlest of our SFR friends have music class once per week. The focus of the music instruction at this early age is to discover the sounds of their voice and learn how to echo and match the pitch of the teacher. Listening and discovering the steady beat of familiar songs through instrument play and movement is the foundation of music itself. The children play all of the non-pitched percussion instruments like the maracas, drums, tambourines, triangles and anything else that you can produce a steady beat song with.
Music Class Times:
PreK: Thursdays 8:05 - 8:35
Kindergarten: Tuesdays 9:40 - 10:10
Music Class Activities:
We are discovering our singing voice by singing our name to "Look Who's Here".
We are discovering the sounds of the shaker instruments by playing them to "Play Your Instruments".
We are learning to play to a steady beat by listening to the "Slow Turtle" poem, the "Hopping Bunny" poem, and the "Quick Mouse" poem.
We have added getting faster, getting slower to our tempo knowledge.
Singing with Kodaly hand signs on So, Mi (up high - down low).
In Kindergarten, we are reading the Kodaly solfeggio of So, Mi on music cards.
Pitch matching assessments continue: (solo singing "Hello, Mrs. A")
Christmas & Spring Show Performances - we prepare songs to sing on stage for the shows.
Mass - we learn to sing the responses needed to participate in the church mass.
