Sample Lab Report Template**

** here are links to two examples of very good Lab Report write-ups

(Note how you can read either report and picture and understand what was happening without even being there. The conclusion for each one was clear as well. THAT is a good report.)

Need to make a graph?

  • Here's a great site to help you
    • make a graph
    • know what type of graph works best with your data
    • try different types of graphs

Title(you can create the title if the teacher doesn’t give you one.)

Abstract: Summarize in 1-2 sentences the purpose of the experiment, the general outline of the procedure and what results you expected and actually gathered.

Question: State the problem or question you are trying to answer.

Hypothesis : State your hypothesis

Include and identify your independent and dependent variables. List what factors or potential variables will be held constant.

Materials: List all materials used. Include the amount of each reagent and size of equipment.

You can copy this from the lab.

Procedure: List each step – you can copy this from the lab. Note any changes you made to the listed procedure.

Results (table and graph): Create a data table with each trial and make a graph if appropriate – check with your teacher.

Conclusions: Note if the data from the lab accepts or rejects your hypothesis, explain results, what can be done differently, and any real world applications.
