Everyone who wants to sing at Carlmont, gets to sing - placement assessments simply place you in the class in which you will be the most successful.

Basic Enrollment Info:

Women's Choir and Men's Choir do not need an audition - just register for the classes.

Concert Choir requires a year in Women's Choir or Men's Choir, or you can do a placement assessment to see if you may be placed in the class.

Treble Clef and Chamber Singers require a placement assessment, students already in Treble Clef or Chamber Singers who want to remain in those ensembles do not need to re-auditon.

CURRENT CHOIR STUDENTS - Auditions will be scheduled during your choir classes this year beginning on March 8th. After you have requested your placement assessment Mrs. Tep will sent out a schedule of auditions.

Incoming 9th graders should register for Women's or Men's Choir.

Placement assessments are not recommended for incoming 9th graders, however, incoming 9th graders with EXCEPTIONAL CHORAL EXPERIENCE AND SKILL may audition with the recommendation of their current voice teacher or choir director. If a placement assessment is requested for an incoming ninth grader please follow the following guidelines. 1. The singer must send an email, not the parent. 2. The singer must copy their parent and current choir or voice teacher on the email. 3. The singer must include a short summary (a couple of sentences) of their singing experience. Send this email to Mrs. Tep gtep@seq.org

Placement Assessments include:

1. Solo - compulsory, everyone sings the same song, a cappella. First verse, melody (top line) only. DOWNLOAD SONG HERE

2. Sight Singing

3. Music Theory - sing: major scale, whole tone scale, chromatic scale, major triad, minor triad.
