Option 1: Sign up for Choral I on your class requests. That's it! Congratulations, you are a choir kid now! 😁
Option 2: Complete a placement assessment to see if you would be successful in one of the intermediate or advanced choirs. A placement assessment is not recommended for freshman or first year choir kids unless they have significant music experience.
Here is what is on the placement assessment
Range check - Mrs. Tep will vocalize everyone on a handful of simple warm ups to find the ideal range for them to sing in.
Solo - everyone will sing Shenandoah. Click HERE to see the sheet music, you may sing it in any key, you will sing a cappella, with no repeat.
Scales & Triads - Scales - major, chromatic, whole tone. Triads - major, minor. Mrs. Tep strongly suggests that you sing all scales and triads on solfege, but you may sing it on anything you are comfortable with. Sopranos and Tenors start on Eb, Altos and Basses start on C.
Sight Singing - a simple diatonic melody, sung on solfege or a neutral syllable
Tonal Memory - repeating short passages played on the piano
Placement Assessments are the last week of March.
Singers must sign up in advance by March 22nd.
Contact Mrs. Tep if you have a scheduling conflict.
