About

Choir director, Genevieve Tep, started teaching at Carlmont in 2003. The choir has grown from three choirs, and about fifty students, to five curricular choirs, four a cappella groups, and enrollment of up to 180 students in a typical year. Carlmont Choirs performs three major concerts a year and performs at community events and invitational festivals. The choirs perform a diverse and exciting repertoire of pop, classical, musical theatre, jazz, music from underrepresented cultures, barbershop...and the list goes on. The main educational goals of the Carlmont Choral Program are to build great musicians and courage a lifelong love of choral music. Singers from the choral program are selected for the California Choral Director's Association Regional Honor Choirs and All State Honor Choirs each year, and students from the Carlmont Choral Program have gone on to successful careers in music as performers and teachers.

The choir is run in part by Choir Council, a dynamic group of student leaders. The Choir Council includes students from every choir, who run community building events and fundraisers throughout the year and act as an advisory council for the choir director.

In Treble, Out of the Blue, Fine Tuning & Lookin' Sharp are extracurricular a cappella groups run by experienced students in our choral program. Auditions are student run and are in the Fall each year. The following students are eligible to audition for the groups: In Treble is open to Treble Clef students, Out of the Blue is open to Chamber Singers students, Fine Tuning is open to any tenor or bass in the choral program, Lookin' Sharp is open to all Women's Choir, Men's Choir and Concert Choir students.

The Singing Scots is the entire choral program. Every performance we do a few songs that every singer in each choir learns and performs together - as The Singing Scots. This is arguably the most important ensemble in the program since it highlights the fantastic work we can all do together.
