Writing

Children will be involved in a wide variety of formal and informal writing experiences throughout the year. Students will have many opportunities to write throughout the day in their journals and in other content areas. Most of their writing experiences will be based on what they learned while reading as a whole class or independently during research reading.

Opinion, personal narrative and expository/informational formats are taught in addition to various forms of poetry. To build effective writing skills, we will be reviewing sentence structure and paragraph writing, as well as learning the eight parts of speech through our language arts instruction.

This year we will connect the individual components of the 6-Traits of writing to the writing instruction. The students will learn how to write effectively with good ideas, proper conventions, creative word choice, personal voice, sequential organization, and sentence fluency.
