WIDA/ACCESS

WIDA

WIDA, or World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment, developed five English Language Proficiency (ELP) standards educators in District

44 base instruction upon in the areas of Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, and Social/Instruction. Using these ELP standards,

along with the local standards, creates a challenging academic environment to promote growth in English proficiency.

ACCESS/W-APT SCREENER

When a student, who is identified as having a non-English background on the home language survey, enrolls in the district the

W-APT/ACCESS screener is administered. The results help determine the student’s English level and eligibility for bilingual educational

services. Annually, in January/February, students in Kindergarten through 12th grade, who have been identified as English Learners, are

administered the ACCESS test. The results provide students’ English proficiency levels in 4 areas: speaking, listening, reading, and

writing. Students will be considered to be exited from the EL program when the following scores have been attained on the

ACCESS test: 5.0 Composite, 4.2 in Reading, and 4.2 in Writing.

WIDA offers three Webinars for parents in English and Spanish.
