My name is Madame/Señora Pope and I have been teaching middle school French since 1998. I have been teaching middle school French in Auburn since 2003 and I have enjoyed seeing the foreign language program become more rigorous over the last 3 years. I received my BA in French with a minor in English from St. Michael's College in Winooski Park, VT. I also received my Master of Education from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA in 2007. I did have the opportunity to travel to France in February of 2000 and felt quite comfortable and applauded by the Parisians. They were thrilled to learn of my love for the French language and my willingness to share the language with American students. I was very excited when the opportunity to teach Spanish was presented to me! French and Spanish are so similar and having a number of Spanish speaking friends made the task very seamless. I have taken Spanish classes at the college level at NHTI from a native Spanish speaking professor and have also had the opportunities to travel to Mexico and Costa Rica! While in Costa Rica, in addition to soaking up the food and culture, I also studied in a program that offers intensive, Spanish language learning. I am very excited that Auburn Village School now has the ability to offer both foreign languages to your child!
My teaching mission is to provide a fun, yet rigorous learning environment for middle school French/Spanish students. A personal goal of mine is to see willing 8th grade students become successful in French/Spanish 2 at Pinkerton Academy. The past few years, with having French and Spanish everyday for 2 years, a large number of students are proving to be quite successful in French and Spanish 2! This year, ALL of the students who took French and Spanish at Auburn Village School were recommended for French/Spanish 2. French/Spanish at the middle school level is the basis of the languages. If students see French and Spanish as fun, they will be more apt to continue with and love languages!
