Welcome Back Message:
Hello Grant Families,
I hope you have had a wonderful summer and are ready for back to school. If you are on my page, it's because you have learned your child is on my roster and you are checking to see how to best prepare for the first day/week/month. The following are just some simple day to day things to get us started and as the year goes, you will get weekly emails from me informing you about academic and classroom happenings. Please make sure to read those. In the meantime, let's start with the following:
1. Please take a moment to fill out the google form. It will help me know a few things about your child and your family.
https://forms.gle/Ljum9SWQXktRUo6m8
2. I am not the teacher that gets to school super early so my time in the morning is spent turning things on and getting any last minute things ready for your child and the day. If you need to talk with me about something important that takes more than 30 seconds, email me and we will schedule a time to meet. mcharris4@gmail.com Quick things at line up such as things about pick up, lunch, appts, etc are manageable.
3. On day 1 of school I will meet you on the new playground. I will have a yard stick with my name on it, bright pink/green. Typically my spot is at the end of the basketball court, near the play structure. On all other days I will meet your child on the playground but without a sign.(If it's raining, typically the kids just come into class on those mornings. Room N-13, closest room downstairs to the teacher parking lot). When the 7:55 bell rings, we walk back to class without the adults. You must say your good byes at line up when we leave for class.
4. At the end of the day I dismiss students to clubs or PrimeTime first, or wherever you tell me to release them to. Then I walk out the gate to the street by our classroom, where Kids Corner kids usually get picked up and then parents/grown ups are waiting for pick ups. Please identify yourself before just walking off with your child(I will tell them this as well.). I truly try to look and see who goes with whom and where.
5. EVERY DAY they need a regular sized backpack. While I understand it might be bigger than them, the tiny packs don't fit the papers coming home. Eventually they will have folders going home on Fridays so they need to be able to hold those too.
6. Case and point, on the first day of school your child will be coming home with a large yellow envelope. Inisde are MANY papers that you need to look over, sign, and return ASAP please. These are for school and district things.
7. They do not need any school supplies. Please keep all of that stuff at home.
8. They can bring a water bottle to class where they can leave it on the desk outside our class each day to drink water from. We have limited fountains on campus but we do have refill stations. Each day I send the bottles home for cleaning.
9. Please LABEL EVERYTHING with your child's name and room # (N-13)on it, i.e. backpack, water bottle, jacket, sweater, etc. Eventually I figure out what belongs to whom but if it's not "lost" in our room but somewhere else, this helps in it's return.
10. If your child has bathroom accidents, pack them spare clothes to keep in their backpack. The nurse's office may or may not have back ups the day your child needs them. The bathrooms are not located in the classroom and they will have to walk down the corridor(girls) or go upstairs and to the end(boys). I strongly encourage the kids to use them at morning recess and lunch recess even if they think they don't need to.
11. Your child will need headphones to use with school laptops. Please bring them in as soon as possible. They need to be able to connect with a typical headphone jack. Please do not send in Bluetooth headphones. They will be kept inside their desk for the entire year.
12. I don't do daily classroom volunteers. Since virtual school, I have learned to do with less support and our schedule for the time I used to have volunteers is all over the place this year. We will need volunteers for the art docent program which should start in December/January, and if we go on any field trips we will need volunteers for that. If you might be interested in those opportunities you will need to fill out the volunteer packet and get fingerprinted. That information can be found in the office currently but I will get it linked here ASAP.
13. Amazon Wish List linked here.
I think those are the basics to get us started. I look forward to meeting everyone when school starts on August 11 and working with all of you this school year.
Back to School Night is August 21. More details forthcoming.
