Sarah Deas (formerly known as Ms. Price) has been the Director of Choirs at Saline High School in Saline, MI since 2013. She directs three curricular choral ensembles and three extra-curricular vocal groups. She also teaches various levels of Guitar and Music Theory. The Saline High School Choir Program's dedication to fine, expressive singing has built their prestigious reputation in the supportive Saline community.
Under Mrs. Deas' direction, Saline Choirs have been invited to perform at the Michigan Music Conference Choral Hour (2018), Michigan Youth Arts Festival Recital Hour (2014, 2019), Carnegie Hall in New York City (2015), the Detroit Opera House (2015, 2016), Hill Auditorium with the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra (2016, 2018), and Chicago Symphony Center (2017). Choirs traveled to Prague and Austria in Spring 2019 for their first European tour. Saline Choirs consistently receive top ratings at MSVMA choral festivals and solo & ensemble events. Annual Masterwork performances have included Haydn's Little Organ Mass, the Vivaldi Gloria, Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem, and Schubert's Mass in G.
Mrs. Deas is an active vocal educator beyond the classroom. She was selected to be the MSVMA 2021 SATB State Honors Choir Director at the Michigan Music Conference in Grand Rapids, MI. Her session presentations include, "Circlesinging for Squares" with the help of SHS singers (MMC 2018), and "My Top Ten: Holiday Reading Packet" (MSVMA Summer Conference 2018). She is also the MSVMA All-State Honors Choir Coordinator. She co-authored a chapter in Musicianship: Composing in Choir (GIA 2016) describing examples of her work with secondary general music courses. She performed in the inaugural recording project and performance of mirabai, a professional level women's chamber ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Sandra Snow.
Mrs. Deas received her B.M. in Music Education (2009) and M.M. in Choral Conducting (2017) from Michigan State University. She is also an active vocalist throughout Michigan, sings regularly with her trio and various bands, and released a CD of her original music entitled, Sarahtonin.
