Sarah Meadows has loved art ever since she was a child. It has been a dream come true for her to return to live and teach her native Roanoke Valley. This is her 18th year of teaching Art for Salem City Schools.
One of the first things you will learn about Ms. Meadows is that she is a devoted Virginia Tech Hokies fan! That's because VT is her school, and she is proud to consider herself a Hokie. She graduated with a BFA (Fine Arts - Studio Art concentration), knowing that would serve as her art education foundation. She illustrated the children's book, Hello Hokie Bird! in 2003. If you have seen it in the local bookstores and libraries, yes, that is your teacher's name on the front! She was also commissioned in 2005 to paint the prototype Hokie Bird statue for the Gobble de Art project. Two more life-sized Hokie Bird statues followed, including the Nick Brantley Memorial, which is permanently housed on the campus at Virginia Tech.
Following graduation from Virginia Tech, Ms. Meadows went on to Hollins University to earn her MAT in Art Education.
She keeps a very busy schedule, as she teaches Art for both East and South Salem Elementary, but she's more than happy to get back with you if you need to contact her. Her e-mail address is smeadows@salem.k12.va.us .
In her spare time, Ms. Meadows enjoys photography, painting and drawing, website design, antiques, genealogy, history, gardening and restoring her 240-year-old log home! She also has a love of music, including playing piano and her Melodeon (an unusual instrument, which is a four-octave reed organ) from 1850. Her tabby cat Bentley is her biggest art critic. Ms. Meadows needs to get Bentley's "paw prints of approval" on the all artwork she creates!
