2025-2026 BATTLE OF THE BOOKS

PERMISSION SLIP

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the annual St. Leo the Great Catholic School Battle of the Books club! This diocesan-wide program is a fun and challenging literature enrichment program for 5th and 6th grade students.

WHO: Any interested 5th or 6th grader

WHAT: Reading club and competition. To prepare for “battle” students will read 12 terrific, age-appropriate books from a pre-selected list. We’ll meet once a week, during Monday’s lunch/recess period to discuss each book. On the day of the competition, teams answer plot, character and theme questions about all of the books, earning points for questions answered correctly. Students are responsible for acquiring their own books, and must read each book completely through to the last word by the due dates. **Failure to do so will result in termination from the program.

WHERE: St. Leo’s School library

WHEN:  Mondays during lunch and recess. Final

WHY: F-U-N!!

I hope your child can join us!

Best,
