Below, you will find TWELVE different activities for you to do with your families for Field Day. Instructional videos and scorecards for each activity will be posted by Thursday Night and stay up for a few weeks so that you can play at your convenience. Remember to send pictures and videos to Ms Healy at jhealy@sainthilaryschool.com and Mrs Wiz at swisniewski@sainthilaryschool.com!
All you have to do is:
1. Watch the how-to video to learn how to play
2. Copy or print the scorecard
3. PLAY!
At the bottom of this page you will find a scorecard that will keep track of who wins each activity. You can use that to determine your overall Field Day winner!
Equipment: 2 plastic cups, 1 sock ball (or tennis ball or something like it)
How to play:
-Set the 2 plastic cups about 20 feet apart
-Start in the middle of the cups and place the ball between your knees
-Time yourself for 1 minute "waddling" back and forth between the cups- each time you get to one of the cups you flip it over. Each time you flip a cup, give yourself a point
SCORING: 1 point for each time you flip the cups (moving back and forth), have someone tally the points as you are waddling
Equipment: 3 stack-able containers (ex: laundry basket, bucket, bowl), sock ball
How to play:
-Stack 3 items into each other and assign each ring a point value (largest area 1 point, middle area 5 points and smallest area 10 points
-Set throw line about 10 feet away
-Toss sock ball into baskets 10 times for each player, record scores. Highest score at the end of the game wins
SCORING: 1 point if sock ball lands in the largest ring, 5 points if it lands in the middle ring and 10 points if it lands in the smallest ring
Equipment: household items, bag (to put the items in during your hunt), scavenger hunt list
How to play:
-The goal of the game is to find as many items on the list within the 5 minute time limit as possible. Items can only be found in your yard or house
-On the start signal, start looking for the following items and collecting them into your bag
-Stop collecting after 5 minutes is up
SCORING: score a point for each item you get in the 5 minute time limit
Equipment: 3 sheets of paper per person, bucket/laundry basket
How to play:
-Make 3 paper airplanes with your papers (they can be 3 different designs or all the same design)
-Place bucket about 5-10 ft away from where you are throwing
-Throw airplanes a total of 10 times with the goal of hitting the bucket or getting the plane to land inside (keep retrieving airplanes after throws)
SCORING: 1pt for hitting the bucket, 2pts for landing inside the bucket
Equipment: 6 bowls (or Tupperware containers), 1 sock ball
How to Play:
-Set up bowls in a bowling pin fashion (check picture) and give each bowl and point value (check picture)
-Set a throw spot about 10 feet away
-Throw the sock ball from the line, retrieve and repeat for 1 minute
-Tally up the points scored
SCORING: 1pt, 2pts or 3pts depending on which bowl each throw lands in, have someone tally up your score as you throw
Equipment: Laundry basket, empty water bottle, tennis ball (or something like it)
How to play:
-Stand up your water bottle and lean the laundry basket upside down with one edge resting on the top of the water bottle (check picture)
-Mark a throw line about 10 feet away (open side of laundry basket facing the throw line)
-Roll the ball towards the laundry basket with the goal of knocking down the water bottle and trapping everything inside the laundry basket as it falls
-Each person get 10 rolls
SCORING: 1pt for trapping the water bottle only, 2pts for trapping the ball only, 3pts for trapping the ball and the water bottle
Equipment: 1 sneaker
How to play:
-Put shoe partially (about 1/2 way) onto foot
-Flip shoe carefully up into the air and let it land on the floor- depending on how it lands is the number of points you get
-Each person gets 10 turns
SCORING: 1pt if the shoe lands on its side, 2pts if the shoe land right side up, 3pts if the shoe lands completely upside down, NEGATIVE 1 point if the shoe breaks something (that's why this one is best for outside)
Equipment: 5 sock balls, bucket/laundry basket, wall
How to play:
-Set laundry basket/bucket up against a wall ( the smaller the bucket the more challenging the game!)
-Mark the throw line about 10 feet away from the basket but close to the same wall
-Make 5 sock balls
-Time yourself for 1 minute and see how many times you can “bank” a sock ball off the wall and into the bucket. The sock MUST hit the wall in order for the point to count. Keep retrieving sock balls until time is up
SCORING: 1 point for every time a sock ball hits the wall and then goes into the bucket
Equipment: 2 milk jugs/juice cartons/large water bottles, 2 plastic cups
How to play:
-Set up plastic cups (or cones, shoes, basketballs, etc...) about 25 feet apart
-Start at one of the cups and carry 1 or both milk jugs down around the other cup and back
-Time yourself for 1 minute, give yourself a point for every time you complete a lap
SCORING: 1pt for every lap completed, have someone tally as you race back and forth
Equipment: household items
How to play:
-Mark an area in your home that will be home base (kitchen table, couch, etc…)
-The object is to find certain items, one at a time, and bring them back to home base. The person to do this the fastest, wins!
-You can use any acronym or word that you like. For example, I’ll use my last name HEALY. Players would have to find objects in their home that starts with each of those letters- H-E-A-L-Y
-On the start signal, the person leaves the home base and starts looking for something that starts with an “H”. When they find it, they bring it back to home base and start looking for something that starts with “E” and so on and so forth.
-Once items have been found and returned to base that match each of the letters, time stops.
SCORING: the person with the fastest time earns 5 points, 2nd fastest time earns 3 points, 3rd fastest time earns 1 point. All other players earn 0 points
Equipment: a coin and some open space
How to play:
-Find an open space where you have enough room to run in place
-The object is to run 400 steps in a little amount of coin flips as possible (like golf- lowest score wins!)
-Flip the coin. If it lands on heads, run 10 steps, if it lands on tails, run 20 steps. Continue flipping the coin and running the allotted steps until you get to 400 (have someone help you count steps as well as someone keeping tally of the number of coin flips you take)
SCORING: Tally each coin flip the person takes. The lowest number of flips earns 5 points, the second lowest number of flips earns 3 points and the 3rd lowest number of flips earns 1 point. All other players score 0 points.
Equipment: 5-10 shoes for each player
How to play:
-Place all the shoes you will be using for the game in the center of the players. Each player then needs to mark a home base about 6-10 feet away from the pile of shoes AND 6 feet away from any other player.
-On the start signal, players will run to the pile, take 1 shoe and return to their home base and place it on their shoe tower (run-grab-stack-repeat!). If your tower falls over it is OK, just rebuild and continue.
-Keep going until all the shoes are gone. Then the players STOP and step away from their tower
SCORING: Players score 1 point for each shoe they have in their tower (fallen shoes do not count)
