General Instructions, Do’s and Don’ts
The students are hereby informed to strictly adhere by the following General Instructions, Do’s and Don’ts during the Lab sessions
General Instructions :-
Lab Batches will be allotted at the beginning of the semester.
Every student has to perform the allotted experiment either in a group or individual as per the instructions given by concerned Faculty in-charge for lab.
Bring the Empty Data Sheets, lab manual and record book to all the laboratory sessions for evaluation.
All calculations pertaining to the experiment should be completed in the laboratory. The results must be submitted and obtain the exit signature from concerned Faculty in-charge before leaving the laboratory.
The internal assessment marks of 40 marks will be awarded considering the continuous internal evaluation (CIE) in the laboratory and an internal test conducted at the end of the semester.
The semester end examination (SEE) of the lab will be conducted for 100 marks and scaled down to 60 marks.
Rules for Maintaining Laboratory Record
Put your name, USN and subject on the outside front cover of the record (Also put that same information on the first page inside).
Update Table of Contents every time you start each new experiment or topic.
Always use Black or Blue Ball point pen and write neatly and clearly
Start each new topic (experiment, notes, calculation, etc.) on a right-side (odd-numbered) page
Obvious care should be taken to make it readable, even if you have bad handwriting
Date to be written every page on the top right side corner
On each right side page, it should contain (Title of experiment, Aim/Objectives, Components Required, Theory, Procedure described clearly in steps, Result)
On each left side page (Circuit diagram, Tables / Pin diagrams, Graphs, Use labels and captions for figures and tables)
Attach Graphs / Plots / Printouts of data as needed. Stick Graphs / Plots / Printouts (A4 Size)on the right side of the lab record
Strictly follow and incorporate the instructions given by the Teacher/ Lab Instructor.
Do’s :-
Students must follow proper dress code (Including Apron) for laboratory classes. (Formal Apron with Logo and College Name).
Students must wear College ID Card.
Students must wear Good quality shoes (for Safety).
The lab timetable must be strictly followed and Be Punctual for your laboratory session.
All bags must be left at the indicated place.
Maintain Silence with a very minimal discussion, if required, related to experiment.
Workspace must be kept clean and tidy at all time.
Handle the electronic circuit components, systems and interfacing kits with care.
All students are liable for any damage to the accessories due to their own negligence.
Students should come well prepared for the Lab classes and bring the Data Sheets, Pens, Pencil, Scale, etc., required for the lab writeup.
Students should write the USN, Name, Experiment Title, Aim, Apparatus Required, Circuit Diagram, Tabular Columns and Necessary Procedure and Equations if any and Expected Result in the Data sheets provided.
Correct specifications of the equipment have to be mentioned in the circuit diagram.
After Writing the Necessary initial requirements in the Data Sheet, the students should show the same to Concerned Lab Faculty and, on their suggestions, / corrections, if any, suggested should be incorporated and finally approval only they can go for conduction.
Students should write their Names, USN, Components collected & Sign in the Lab Components Book, while taking the apparatus, from the Lab Supervisor. (Note : If batches are made, then one person should collect the components.)
Handle the equipment with care & strictly follow the instructions given by faculty /instructor.
Power supply is to be Switched ON only after the connections are checked by the Staff / Instructor.
Perform the Experiment and take the necessary readings, waveforms, etc., required for calculations.
Upon completing the experiment, students should Switch OFF the power supply and then remove the circuit connection.
Students should complete the Lab Calculation and observation part, Plotting of Graphs, etc., and show the same to the Concerned Lab Faculty and on their suggestions / corrections, if any, suggested should be incorporated and get signature and correction for the final data sheets from Concerned Lab Faculty.
Finally, Lab Viva Voce will be conducted and on completing the same they are permitted to Return the components collected to the lab supervisor and later they can leave the lab on the approval of Concerned Lab Faculty.
Place the chairs properly before leaving the lab.
Turn off the electronic equipment, CROs, Power Supplies and Systems properly.
Students are NOT allowed to work alone in the laboratory without the Lab Supervisor.
Please check the laboratory notice board regularly for updates.
The completed lab record should be submitted in every class (Note : It is mandate that the Records of the previous week conducted should be submitted in the present week).
Utilize the First Aid box in emergency situation.
Don’ts :-
Don’t come late to the Lab.
Don’t bring Cell Phones to Labs (Keep all the Cell Phones in the Mobile Locker; Usage of cell phone is strictly prohibited, if found it will be seized).
Don’t carry any Food and other Beverages to the lab.
With Mains ON, don’t make or remove the connections.
Don’t switch ON the supply without getting the circuit verified from Faculty/Instructor.
Don’t leave the lab without obtaining the permission of the staff In-Charge.
If any problem, report immediately to the notice of the Lab Supervisor or Concerned Faculty In-charge.
Performance Evaluation of Student in the Laboratory (every week):
RUBRICS for Evaluation for Lab (Max. Marks: 30)
Conduction of Practical Examination:
Examination shall be conducted for 100 marks, later reduced to 60 marks.
All experiments are to be included for practical examination.
Student has to perform 2 experiments in the semester end examination.
Scheme of Evaluation (SEE): (With effect from 2018-2019)
The students are required to perform TWO Experiments during the practical examination of THREE hours duration. The Scheme of Valuation is as follows
Note :
The Student is required to obtain a minimum of 40% Marks in SEE Practical Examinations to pass.
The SEE 100 Marks evaluated will be finally converted to equivalent 60 Marks by VTU
