Risk Takers

Our community is surrounded by amazing rivers to fish and canoe, beaches with waves to surf, and mountains to climb. A web of hiking and mountain biking trails connects us to our local forests, lakes, and rivers. The MSK Outing Club is all about getting together to have fun adventuring the outdoors while sharing our passions.

Thursday 5/14: Hike the smith preserve

The bus will take us to the Smith Preserve. Hiking and Frogging on the brook trail! Pickup @ 4:15 at Smith Preserve parking lot on Guinea Rd.

Tuesday 5/21: Canoeing on the Mousam River

No experience necessary. Pickup @ MSK @ 4:30 PM No Late bus option*

Tuesday 6/4: Surfing at Gooches Beach!

The bus will drop us off at Gooches Beach. Aquaholics surf shop is hooking us up with surfboards and wetsuits! No experience necessary. Bring a towel and a change of clothes. Pickup @ 4:15 PM at Gooches Beach.

Tuesday 6/11: Hike Tyler Brook Trail to Cape Porpoise

The bus will drop us off at the Tyler Brook Trail Entrance. We will hike from there through the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust Trails to Bradbury’s Market, where we will buy some ice cream. Pickup @ 4:15 PM at Bradbury’s Market, Kennebunkport. Bring money for ice cream*

Past 2023 Fall outings:

September 19th: Learn about outing club, hike in the MSK Research Forest, and go out to the MSK challenge course. (Complete)

October 3: Fishing at Rogers Pond. No experience Necessary. Bring any fishing gear you have. (Complete)

October 12: Hike at the Smith Preserve on the Fox Den Trail. (Complete)

October 17: Birding! Bridle Path Hike to Gooches Beach. We have the Binoculars.

October 24: Birding and and exploring at GOOSE ROCKS BEACH *** ! Binoculars Provided!

Thursday 5/4: Hike the smith preserve (complete)

Tuesday 5/9: Astronomy Night and Low Tide Cave Exploration (Complete)

Drop off at Colony Beach @ 6:30PM. We will walk from there to the “blowing cave” (where cars park to look out at Walkers Point on Ocean Ave). We will do an intertidal zone harvest and low tide cave exploration until sunset, then the new Unistellar eVeScope telescope will come out from sunset until pickup @ 9:00 PM

*Event will be moved if sky is not clear* Pickup at Walkers Point lookout on Ocean Ave @9:00 PM

Tuesday 5/18: Fishing and Canoeing on the Mousam River (Moved to Thursday)

No experience necessary. Pickup @ MSK @ 4:15 PM No Late bus option*. Bring poles if you want to fish while we canoe.

Thursday 5/25: Surfing at Gooches Beach. (Moved to Thursday)

Tuesday, November 1: Last Fall Outing**

Hike the Smith Preserve, then walk over to "The Farmhouse" for our fire making workshop with local Native American, White Bear. Learn the basics and safety of fire making at The Farmhouse. Bring anything you want to cook over the fire to share!

Pickup @ 4:45 @ 162 Goose Rocks Rd. Kennebunkport (Look for a big white house with a Grey barn attached). Park along the road for pickup*
