VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
Community Service Quick Reference
MHS has a volunteerism graduation requirement to help students understand that volunteerism is an essential civic duty.
Students are required to complete at least 40 hours of community service to meet graduation requirements.
Hours must be completed within your High School years
(first day of freshman year through senior year)****
Please contact the guidance office for available community service opportunities
Quick Facts:
It has to be volunteerism - if you are paid it doesn't count
Class fundraisers - If you are working a table to earn money for your class (raffle tickets, baked goods) this does not count as community service.
Hallway and float decorating also does not count towards community service hours.
Students can accumulate 40 hours over four years or may complete them all in one year.
Completed forms must be submitted to the guidance office

ShineOnCass! Modeling our successful school-based mentoring program at Messalonskee High School started in honor and memory of Cassidy Charette, we are Shining On by expanding into the community to help even more kids succeed!
Attention High School Students in Greater Waterville; Here's YOUR chance to Shine On and make a BIG difference in a child's life. We are actively recruiting and training now for our newest program at the Boys & Girls Clubs and YMCA at the Alfond Youth Center in Waterville. High school freshmen, sophomores and junior mentors (Bigs) will be matched in 1-to-1 relationships with elementary school-aged youth (Littles) to spend time together for one hour each week after school having fun at Alfond Youth Center! All Bigs receive training and support from our professional staff. This program offers flexible scheduling to accommodate busy high school lives.
