Please check with your school counselor to ensure that a specific AP class is being offered. NOT ALL OF THE AP COURSES ABOVE WILL BE OFFERED EVERY YEAR. Offering courses depends upon student interest and other schedule-related factors. Some students take online AP courses when their preferred subject is not provided or scheduled at MHS.

AP courses are weighted into a student's final GPA at 1.15%.

All students are expected to take the AP Exam, which is provided each May. The fee for each AP exam is $94. This is a standardized exam that is graded by a select group of educators throughout the country. Exams are scored from 1-5, 5 being the highest score. 69% of our students in 2016 scored a 3 or better in AP exams.

A student's exam score is his/her property. Students can choose to forward their scores to the college of their choosing to be evaluated for college credit. Many colleges will accept a score of 3 or higher as a college course equivalent, meaning that students could automatically earn college credit by virtue of his/her AP score. An updated list of all AP college credit policies can be found here.

Just type in the college and the field will populate with the different score/college credit options.

Exam Scores and College Credit

As usual, students' work will be scored by our network of college faculty and AP teachers, and will be reported on a 1–5 scale. We anticipate releasing scores as close to the usual July timeframe as possible.

We're confident that the vast majority of higher ed institutions will award college credit as they have in the past. We've spoken with hundreds of institutions across the country that support our solution for this year's AP Exams.

Exam Security

Like many college-level exams, this year's AP Exams will be open book/open note. The exam format and questions are being designed specifically for an at-home administration, so points will not be earned from content that can be found in textbooks or online. However, students taking the exams may not consult with any other individuals during the testing period. We'll take the necessary steps to protect the integrity of each exam administration, as we do every year.

While some of these practices are confidential to maximize their effectiveness, students and education professionals can learn more about our security measures.

At a minimum, test takers should understand that those attempting to gain an unfair advantage will either be blocked from testing or their AP scores will be canceled, and their high school will be notified as will colleges or other organizations to which the student has already sent any College Board scores (including SAT® scores). And they may be prohibited from taking a future Advanced Placement® Exam as well as the SAT, SAT Subject Tests™, or CLEP® assessments.

Preparing for AP Exams

Over the summer, your student should be sure they have access to their CollegeBoard account. If they already have an account, they should be sure they know their username and password. Students should not create a new account. If they do not have an account, they should create one at www.collegeboard.org. One tip: If the student has taken the PSAT, they will have an access code on their score report they can use to set up an account.

Pre-Registration

In the fall students will receive an access code from their AP teacher to register for their AP exam. This will allow them to complete their pre-registration information, and will no longer require a pre-administration session during the school day. This information will be used to link them to their AP exams, score reports, and answer sheets with a pre-printed label. All information filled out online should be accurate so that their exams are properly assigned and scored.

Exam fees

Students will register for their AP exams by November 15, 2022. AP exams cost $97per exam.

All students owe a minimum of $40 per exam by November 1, each year. Any late order in the system will incur an additional $40 fee. Students who drop an AP course after the November 15 deadline will forfeit the $40; if they drop prior to November 15, the fee will be returned.

If paying by check, please make the check payable to Messalonskee High School. You may mail the payment to the school, attention Guidance Office/AP fees or have your son/daughter drop it off in the Guidance Office. AP FEES CAN BE PAID INCREMENTALLY OR ALL AT ONCE (whatever is easiest). If these fees pose a hardship for you or your family, please follow up with the AP teacher and/or your student’s school counselor.
