Mr. Dustin Olson, High School Director
2025-26 will be Mr. Olson’s tenth year as River Road's Head Band Director. He has been a band director for over 20 years, having taught at schools in the Austin and Fort Worth areas, as well as Clarendon and West Orange, Texas before coming to River Road.
Mr. Olson is a native of Washington State, but he got to Texas as soon as he could! He attended college at Montana State University and Eastern Washington University, where he graduated in 2002 with his Bachelors degree in Music Education. He also earned his Masters degree in Music Performance (Instrumental Conducting) from West Texas A&M University in 2020.
In high school and college, Mr. Olson's main instruments were French horn and trumpet. He was the drum major of MSU’s Spirit of the West Marching Band, and is a former marching member of both the Seattle Cascades and The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, where he played the mellophone (marching French horn).
Mr. Olson's professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educator’s Association, the Texas Bandmasters Association and the Association of Texas Small School Bands, where he serves as the Secretary/Treasurer for Region 1. He is also an alumni member of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity.

Mr. William Scott, Middle School Director
2025-2026 will be Mr. Scott’s fifth year at River Road, and his seventh in music education. Prior to his position at River Road Middle School, he was a freelance trumpet musician and private lesson teacher.
Mr. Scott is originally from Dallas, Texas and is a 2019 graduate of Texas A&M University-Commerce, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. As a student, Mr. Scott founded an affiliate chapter of the International Trumpet Guild at his campus, and served as its inaugural president in 2017-2018. Throughout college, he served Sachse High School as a marching band tech for two years, and was a trumpet section leader for the A&M-Commerce Marching Band.
Mr. Scott’s professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Bandmasters Association, and the Association of Texas Small School Bands, where he presently serves as an organizer for the Junior High All-Region Band. He is also an alumni member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
