AGM Chairpersons Report Sept 2021
The Parent’s Association met on 5 occasions in the last school year. Each of the meetings were via Zoom due to COVID. Each meeting was attended by approximately 30 parents. The attendance rates proved to be higher at virtual meetings than in school meetings. Perhaps going forward there is place for a mixture of in person and virtual meetings.
Each meeting was attended by Mr Corley. At each meeting he gave detailed reports of what was going on in the school. He continues to be very open to being asked questions at these meetings. This means the meetings have been a great platform for parents to find out what is going on in their child’s school, and to ask questions and to put forward any suggestions they might have.
Last year’s AGM included a very interesting seminar on cyber bullying and internet safety.
The 2020/2021 school year was one that teachers, students and parents had the opportunity to put virtual learning and google classrooms to the test. Mr Kavanagh joined the parents Association meeting in January to explain how google classroom was being used.
The last school year unfortunately was not one for parent’s association social or fund raising events, hopefully this year will be a little different.
The Parent’s Association has a presence on the Royal School Website, to access it, click on about us, and then you’ll see Parent’s Association. Previous minutes are available on it, as are Mr Corley’s reports.
I would be grateful if any new parents to the school could send their email address to the Parents Association email- parentsassociation@royalschoolcavan.ie, so that they can be included in any correspondence.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Parent’s Association Secretary, Alison McDermott, our Treasurer Nicola Mee, and the rest of the committee members-
Trevor Cassidy, Richard Hudson, Jenny Lynch and Rachel Cabani.
Also thank you to Sarah Jane Perry for taking on the role of the Parent’s Association facebook page administrator, and for Rosarii Mannion for setting up the parent’s association twitter account @parentroyal.
Thank you
Heather Alexander, Chairperson

The Parent's Association met on 4 occasions last year, 1 less than usual, in view of COVID. Our last meeting was held via Zoom in May of this year.
A number of events took place during the year-
There was an excellent parent's Seminar on Study Skills by SuperGeneration organised as part of the Student Skills Programme which was part funded by the Royal School Parents Association.
The Annual Christmas Raffle took place after the Carol Service, €2170 was raised towards upgrading the hockey pitch facilities.

In May of this year, we learned of the decision to close the boarding section of the school for good, the Parent's Association, regrets this decision.
Towards the end of last year, Mr Lindsay resigned as headmaster, Mr Corley remains as acting principal . The Parent's Association acknowledged and praised Mr Corley's success as acting principal. We also wish him continued success over the coming year. I'm sure he has had a busy summer preparing for a different school year.
Mr Corley has always been very supportive of the parent's association. He has attended every meeting since he became acting principal. This is a huge asset to the Parent's Association, making the meetings very useful and informative. He is always very open to being asked questions during the meeting.

We as a Parent's Association are very fortunate, in that we have a very supportive principal. He has attended each of our meetings, and gives a very detailed and informative report at each one. He is also very happy to answer any questions parents might have, and will listen to any suggestions. After each PA meeting, draft minutes are sent out by email. If anyone knows anyone who is not getting emails and would like to, please ask them to email the PA and they will be included.
I want to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to Margaret McKeown Boyle for all the work she has done on face book over the last few years. The page has 262 followers and has proven a good way to get messages across. Thankfully Tara Cunningham has agreed to continue this role, so thank you Tara.

Carole Clarke's son has also left the school, and therefore she has also left her role on the sports hall fundraising Committee. I would like to say a huge thank you on behalf of the Parents Asssociation to both for all the hard work they have done.

Mr Lindsay attended each of our Parent's Association meetings last year, and thankfully Mr Corley has agreed to do the same.
Unfortunately, our longstanding secretary of the Parent's Association, Julie Marshall, retired her position last year. She is greatly missed, and unfortunately, so far her post remains unfilled.
