In 1st grade we reinforce what was learned in kindergarten: steady beat, voice exploration, and repertoire. We then proceed to playing unpitched percussion instruments with the songs and learn rudimentary music writing. During our activities, I take the opportunity to borrow orchestra and band instruments from Canyon Vista so the students get an up close and personal look at these.
I use a bank of songs from which I choose to teach music. Based on the dynamics of the individual classes, I vary which songs I use and when. Here is a link to those songs. You can ask your child which songs they are learning or know and find them in this folder.
