McNeil offers students the opportunities to compete in many UIL Academic contests. Each contest is sponsored and coached by a McNeil Teacher.

Science UIL is a state-wide competition in science that tests high school student's knowledge of Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Each year there is a different science reading assignment. This year's science reading assignment is: How to Teach Quantum Physics to your Dog, by Chad Orzel.

The Spelling and Vocabulary UIL is a contest that tests students knowledge of spelling and vocabulary. Each year there is a word list entitled Word Power that contains 80% of the words that will be used as part of the contest.
