Beastman Mural

Unit Objective:

To create a painted mini mural that combines the ideas of Maori traditional art froms with

contemporary graffiti art.

Learning Intentions:

In this unit of work you will learn to -

  • Research and draw information and ideas from traditional Maori art and contemporary graffiti art

  • Generate, develop and resolve ideas for a mural design

  • Use a variety of art media to create a finished painted mural

  • Work both independently and collaboratively in the development and sharing of ideas and art making processes

  • Develop skills in the fields of drawing, painting and design.

Assessment

In this unit of work this is how you will be assessed

Summary of Tasks

    • Research designs and the meanings of taniwha art forms

    • Draw a selection of taniwha forms in wet and dry media

    • Research information about the art works of Australian graffiti artist Beastman

    • Create four concepts combining ideas from taniwha and Beastman

    • Develop and refine to create a final design

    • Select a design from a group of 3 - 4 students and create a painted mini mural.
