Even though it may not feel like it, winter really is on the way. As the weather cools down, you should be thinking about finding a great book to read in your favorite chair by the fireplace, wood stove, or heater. We've just gotten plenty of new reads, many of them on the long list for national book awards in 2016. That means we've got some of the newest, most interesting, most popular reads for teens. Come check something out.
We are working on several new library programs, too. As I work on grants for a new maker space in the library, we're starting small with whiteboard tables, craft supplies, adult coloring, and puzzles. We're preparing for an Hour of Code event during the week of Dec. 7-13, and we're exploring the idea of a Genius Bar, similar to those found in professional Apple retail stores. If you're particularly good with any type of technology (Android, Apple, gaming, programming, coding, etc), stop by the library to find out how you can become one of our Resident Geniuses.
We've partnered with the Ulster County Historical Society to bring in some amazing artifacts and displays throughout the school year. The first exhibit is about our county agricultural history, and you can view it in the display cases inside outside the library.
Also watch for information about Poetry Jam sessions during the 5th and 7th lunches. We'll have an open mic format where the library is set up to allow readings, spoken word, original pieces, and acoustic music. Listen to announcements for upcoming dates and times.
See you soon in the library.
