Announcement
Effective April 1, 2016 the Halton Respite funds have been transferred to ROCK to manage and oversee on behalf of the Ministry of Child and Youth Services. ROCK has been working extensively with our community partners at Central West Specialized Developmental Services to facilitate this transfer of accountability.
Through this transition we have:
formalized the Halton Respite Approval Committee, with members from CWSDS, Woodview, CYP, Nelson and ROCK to review all requests for Halton Respite funds (click here for the meeting schedule);
implemented a new online application process for all service providers to apply for funds on behalf of clients and families.
About Respite Funds
Applications for Respite funding are completed by the service provider involved and are made on behalf of families in Halton with children and/or youth who are experiencing social, emotional, behavioural or psychiatric challenges, who would benefit from purchase of service (e.g. camps, activities, programs, urgent need etc.) or Respite (e.g. a support worker engages with their child/youth in a variety of different scenarios) providing the child with meaningful activities and engagement and the family with much needed respite. These funds are to be used solely for children and youth with identified mental health needs; there are other funds available in Halton (Halton Support Services) to support children/youth with developmental diagnosis.
Respite Funding is allocated up to $2,000 and is considered to be an interim support while long term and sustainable resources are found and/or successful service provision reduces the need for additional respite support. If funding is approved, the identified service provider, who completed the application, will support the family in accessing an appropriate out-of-home respite program or respite worker to provider support to the family. Funds will be paid directly tot eh family who will have the full responsibility to pay the respite worker or program.
How to Apply for Halton Respite Funds
**Effective June 1, 2017 - please use the Halton Respite Funding - Camp Application for all applications for funds for camp. All other applications should use the Halton Respite Funding Application.
Please note the following high level changes in this process:
Application for funds will only be completed through the new online application process; applications will be reviewed by the Halton Respite Committee on a bi-weekly basis;
There are no longer two streams of funds available or two separate application processes (previously Respite and WRAP); all applications for funds will use this single process and will be deemed as Respite;
Service providers, upon approval of funds, will receive an approval letter along with a package of information to be provided directly to the family. Service providers will also need to call into to ROCK to register their clients and family for funds;
ROCK will only pay families directly and it will be the responsibility of the family to provide payment to the worker or the program;
ROCK will directly contract with Service Providers (e.g. Bartimaeus, Woodivew) for specific complex cases.
A sample application is available for review to provide direction and guidance on what level of detail is required in the application.
The service provider who is completing the application on behalf of the family must obtain consent from the family to share information with the Halton Respite Approval Committee.
Please click the green button below or use the link on the right hand side of the page to go to the Halton Respite Funding Application.
Note: Support workers are hired by the family (with a rate of pay of $18/hour) as an independent contractor and are in no way affiliated with the agency who employe them (if applicable) and /or the agency who employs the service provider who applied for funding. Funding will be dispersed directly to the family, who will in turn be responsible for payment of services rendered.
