A study of watersheds, their ecosystems,& relationship to us, reinforced through actively learning the art of paddling.
This unit focuses on looking at water as a resource globally, nationally, and more intensively locally. This will be reinforced by learning how to paddle, pack, and portage a canoe. Using our local environment and landscape as a resource we will look at how water affects us, how it has shaped us, and how it needs to be looked at in the future. The unit starts with a basic understanding of water and the water cycle, this will lead to looking at what makes a watershed. Local watersheds will be investigated by way of looking at historical uses and peoples of these of these watersheds. Ultimately the unit will self guide to an deeper understanding of how we utilize watersheds today and the environmental threats they face today.
