About Us

Moosalamoo has been a part of the Otter Valley Community since 2005.  During that time Josh Hardt developed a self-designed comprehensive curriculum and educational model based on Outdoor Education.  It is the successes of Moosalamoo students, past and present that are a testament to the program.  They can be found in a variety of outdoor careers all over the country, such as Outdoor Ed, physical training instruction, wilderness guiding, game wardens, and volunteers on conservation projects, among many other intense outdoor jobs. We are proud to call them our graduates.
Joshua Hardt co-founded Moosalamoo in 2005.  He holds an Outdoor Education degree from Johnson State College and holds a variety of certifications including SOLO wilderness first Aid instructor, AMGA single pitch Climbing Instructor, ACA Level 3 white water canoe instructor, and  AIORE Level 2 Avalanche. His foundational knowledge was borne of an eclectic Outdoor Life style.  Josh was raised in an off-the-Grid Homestead in Vermont, where his family operated a wilderness living school.  Josh's passion is bridging the gap of outdoor education and ecological prowess, teaching that one does not exist without the other. As a naturalist Josh finds that all things connect, and uses his knowledge to demonstrate this to his students. He has lived in the Rocky mountains and in Alaska working as a mountain guide.  He has guided everything from fly fishing to sea kayak expeditions to back country skiing to mountaineering,  Josh Moonlights as an Adjunct Professor in the Adventure Education Program of Castleton University teaching courses in Fly Fishing, Primitive Skills, Back Country Skiing and Snowboarding and Wilderness Canoe Tripping.  Currently much of his life adventures take place with  his family in Hubbardton Vermont.  Here he runs a small homestead with his wife Melinda and three sons, River, Leif and Nolan.
