Course Description and Curriculum
One of my favorite quotes is: “Creativity is intelligence having fun!” This course is designed to foster both intellect and imagination. The goals are for students to stretch their comfort zones, challenge their ways of thinking, and hone their writing skills, all while earning their final state mandated credits in English Language Arts.
Creative Writing aligns with a variety of pathways, whether college or work-place bound, by providing opportunities for students to discover—or rediscover—the uniqueness that each individual has to offer. Through writing and other activities, students will be inspired to recognize and offer distinctive viewpoints with hope that that mindset will carry over into any chosen profession or even in everyday life. It has been noted over and over again that companies are looking for employees with creativity…from product design and implementation, to advertising and marketing, to resolutions and problem-solving. There are millions of jobs in need of creativity. But our souls are in need of it, as well!
The curriculum will include a variety of texts and tasks such as short stories, poetry, character sketches, letters, and projects…just to name a few. Students will showcase work via class and group shares, poetry jams, displays, digital books, slides, etc. The rigorous and reflective coursework is designed to show academic and personal growth.
