An Academic and Career Plan (ACP) represents a fluid, mapped academic plan reflecting a student’s unique set of interests, needs, learning goals and graduation requirements. It goes beyond the traditional “4 Year Plan” by recording a student’s connections to the larger community including community service, volunteerism, hobbies and activities, and post-secondary planning.
Students begin developing the ACP as early as 7th grade. It is more general in nature. Students take 3 surveys (interest, work, and values) and the results are then posted on their ACP. We us vawizard.org to help with this process. Each student has a login and a password to begin this process.
7th and 8th grade students meet individually with a school counselor to develop the first formal ACP. At this point, the goal is to have each student identify career goals and colleges of interest. We also start to discuss post-secondary options in order highlight the importance of a positive secondary school experiences. Parents will receive an email containing their student's ACP plan once they have met with the counselor. PARENTS NEED TO APPROVE THE ACP within the email they receive.
Throughout high school in advisory and with school counselors, students view and update ACP documents. Completed ACPs are stored in the e-portfolio of Vawizard.org.
