The Wellbeing Scope and Sequence brings together the key ideas and learning outcomes for Personal Social Education (PSE), Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) and the wellbeing learning and teaching based on the #heartofRCHK. For more information about this wellbeing approach, please visit the school website.
The Wellbeing scope and sequence was developed by drawing on a number of different documents and best practices from around the world, including documents from the IB and Unesco.
The scope and sequence is organised into six strands. Five of these strands are based on the five roots of wellbeing at RCHK. These are Health, Environment, a sense of Accomplishment, Relationships and Appreciation. The final strand focuses on the development of the individual - Identity. Each strand is defined in the accompanying document.
The scope and sequence is presented in Phases from 1-4 for the Primary school, covering all aspects of personal and social development. As a continuum of learning, it is expected that students will progress through it at a rate appropriate to their own levels of understanding. The curriculum is cyclical in nature and therefore some aspects of it are taught in more than one year group, often developing in complexity as the students progress.
The document includes a series of key ideas in each strand, some of which are repeated from phase to phase. The key ideas are further developed by the learning outcomes accompanying them, which differ from phase to phase.
As part of our ongoing commitment to wellbeing and student development, we implement a Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) curriculum in every year group of RCHK.
The curriculum is developmental, and covers four strands for Primary students:
Relationships
Gender, Values and Sexuality
Staying Safe: Skills for Health and Wellbeing
The Human Body and Development
I would like to invite you to view the webcasts below about the RSE curriculum on the links below. All videos have the password rchk.
These aspects of the curriculum are covered throughout the year, and as they come up for students.
Please note that teachers will inform parents/ guardians before they begin planned sessions to teach aspects of the curriculum to do with staying safe, parts of the body and human development.
