Grade 5 General Homework Guidelines

Reading: Fifth graders can expect to have a reading assignment each week day night along with a written response. This may take the form of a worksheet, specific questions, or a reading log.

Book Genre Project: Each month students will be assigned a specific genre, (type), of book to read independently. They will choose a project to complete from a list of choices.

Spelling: One unit is complete each week. Spelling tests are given on Fridays.

Writing: Fifth graders are expected to use the writing process to craft their stories and other pieces. The writing process includes prewritng, drafting, revising, editing and publishing.

Daily Oral Language: Assignments are given each day. Students might complete them during the day.

Math: Homework is given each night. Most often it is to complete the pages associated with that day's lesson.

Social Studies: Homework in Social Studies is given periodically and can include long term assignments such as projects.

Students have an assignment notebook where they are expected to write down their homework assignments.
