Curriculum

Listed below are the titles of texts and programs used in Grade 5. The curriculum is aligned to the Common Core Standards which can be viewed by clicking on the links below.

Spelling: Spelling Connections Zaner-Bloser This series connects spelling with thinking, vocabulary, reading, and writing through word sorts, analogies, writing prompts, and content words.

Reading: Novels and short story selections that target specific reading skills are used. This year's reading topics are pioneers, friendship, and the ocean. We will use The Daily 5 structure to teach strategies and literacy independence.

Writing: Write Steps This program is aligned to the Common Core. Students learn to write from their own experiences and use their imagination to create organized pieces of writing.

Social Studies: Our United States Students will learn about US History from the 1400's to the 1600's as well as the early 20th century.
