BIPOC Mental Health

Culture, ethnicity, and race all play a large role in the way that each person experiences the world and in the types of mental health support they may need. Mental Health America's (MHA's) online Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Mental Health Resources offer a wealth of information and tools to bring light to the unique experiences of these communities and empower and uplift BIPOC individuals on their mental health journeys.

BIPOC emphasizes:

  • The impact of systemic racism and discrimination on mental well-being.

  • Cultural stigma around mental health can affect help-seeking behaviors in BIPOC communities.

  • Access to culturally competent mental health resources is often limited for BIPOC individuals.

  • Advocacy for equitable mental health services is crucial for improving outcomes in these populations.

Each July, MHA is proud to recognize Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. Named in honor of teacher, author, advocate, and journalist Bebe Moore Campbell, this month is a time to focus on the unique strengths and challenges that Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) face when it comes to mental health.

Breaking down mental health stigma in BIPOC communities.
