About Mrs. Shea

Mrs. Shea teaches business, marketing, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy at Pinnacle High School. She just completed her graduate study program, a Masters of Arts in Entrepreneurship and Economic Education (MAEEE) through the University of Delaware. She has served on the San Francisco Federal Reserve Education Advisory Group, on the AZDECA Executive Council, and on the Arizona Council for Economic Education. She was also the Arizona Marketing Educators' Association President 2013. Since 2004, Mrs. Shea has been an adjunct faculty member for Maricopa County Community College District, which makes all her students eligible to obtain Dual Enrollment college credits. She has been the Pinnacle DECA advisor, since it's inception, now in it's 12 year. Over those years, she has had more than 185 students qualify for DECA's International Competition. In April 2018, 9 Pinnacle DECA students we're International medal winners and/or finalists, with one team reaching THIRD! These accomplishments contribute to ranking the Pinnacle DECA Chapter as one of the most successful in Arizona over the past decade.

Before teaching, Mrs. Shea was in sales management for a number of Fortune 500 companies, but she has just completed her fourteenth year as a second career teacher. As a Business, Marketing and Entrepreneurship teacher, she loves the fact that she can impart real world expertise into her curriculum. That way, the students are learning material that is going to make an impact in their life.

As a DECA advisor, Mrs. Shea gets to see her students mature, flourish and become focused on what they want to accomplish beyond high school. She gives students the opportunity to figure out what they want to do in their future and see what it's like in the real world. She loves seeing her former students and Pinnacle DECA alumni, who are graduating college, staying in touch and telling her how she prepared them very well for the future.

In 2015, Mrs. Shea completed her Masters of Arts in Economic and Entrepreneurship Education. This program enabled Mrs. Shea to learn and now teach entrepreneurship through the lens of economics. Taking courses in macroeconomics, microeconomics, international trade and finance, money, banking and financial markets and educational methodologies has given her the chance to sharpen her skills so she can teach her students in an exceptional way. Through this experience, she was able to travel to places like Washington D.C. and New York City on the floor of the NYSE!

Mrs. Shea served on the San Francisco Federal Reserve Education Advisory Group (EAG), which gave her a unique opportunity to preview economic lesson plans that are being created for the classroom, thus enhancing the quality of learning. The EAG has given Mrs. Shea new ways to teach that help students learn that are more enjoyable to the students and herself. In the summer of 2017, Mrs. Shea traveled with other economic education professionals to Lima and Machu Picchu for an economic education exchange and brings that international experience into the classroom.

Mrs. Shea is married to Bart Shea, who is a real estate developer, and frequently chaperones Pinnacle DECA trips and helps guide students with their projects. We are very lucky to have him. She also has two children; Mark, an ASU Political Science Alum, and has been in Naval Special Forces since 2014. Her daughter, Katey, an NAU alum, currently resides in Charleston, S.C. Finally, in her "free time", Mrs. Shea spends the weekends horseback riding in the Tonto and Coconino National Forests.
