Course Statement:

The Upper School Physical Education Department at Paradise Valley Christian Preparatory is founded on the belief that our bodies are of value to God. He cares not only for our souls, but also or bodies.

The Physical Education Department believes that each student should be exposed to a healthy lifestyle that includes consistent exercise, proper diet, and healthy habits.

A consistent exercise program is emphasized through the curriculum by providing daily exercises as part of the lesson. In each class, students are exposed to the flexibility, cardiovascular, agility and strength components of exercise.

Physical Education Syllabus:

Each course in Physical Education will concentrate on developing and maintaining

Each students' overall fitness.

OBJECTIVES:

       1. Optimal skill development in each activity

       2. Develop and maintain physical fitness

       3. Increase knowledge in the value of physical fitness, the effects of exercise

           On the body and the rules and strategy of each activity.

       4. Develop Sportsmanship – Sportsmanship is an important part of youth development.

To become contributing, competent, and capable adults, youth must develop and learn to value sportsmanlike behavior. They must learn to be fair and generous competitors, good losers, and graceful winners.

Grading Policies:  Will be based on the following:

PARTICIPATION /BEHAVIOR = 75 %.

 DRESSING OUT = 25%

 

 Students receive five points per day.

                        Each student begins the week with 25 points.

                     Students must participate every day in class. 

                        The following actions will result in point deductions from this unit grade:

Physical Education Dress:

The following policy outlines the standards of dress for 9th grade PVCP Physical Education classes.

1.  PVCP PHYSICAL EDUCATION UNIFORM.  No undergarments can be showing.

2.      Athletic shorts or sweatpants which must be worn with the waistband at or above the hips.

3.  Tennis shoes and socks.

 

Uniform clarifications:

      -Examples that are NOT acceptable:

1.  Shoes: street shoes, spiked shoes, boots, slip-ons, sport sandals, no shoestrings on tie shoes

2.  Pants: metal buckles, too tight, ripped, pants hanging down below the hip

                  

Medical Policy:

A Physician’s statement / note is required when a student needs to modify their

Participation due to medical reasons. A note is required for non-participation.

If an injury occurs, it must be reported immediately to the teacher.

 

 Locker Room Rules:

Don’t leave valuables and money unlocked.

All students participating in extra-curricular activities must participate in PE on the day(s) of                  Competition or performance.  If you have a medical excuse due to illness or injury for PE, it   also applies to removal from practice after school.  The students' coach / advisor will be     notified by the PE teacher if non-participation occurs.

-          If a student is injured during class, the teacher must be notified immediately.

-          Profanity is NOT tolerated. A Teacher-Student conference, Teacher-Student-Parent conference will be scheduled.

-          No large earrings, watches, or bracelets are to worn to class.

Safety:

-          Use the equipment properly as instructed. Students damaging school equipment or property will have to replace it.

-          Follow all class safety procedures and rules.
