The main body of a ship or other vessel, including the bottom, sides, and deck but not the masts, superstructure, rigging, engines, and other fittings.

In the past, Māori used waka to get around New Zealand's coastline and waterways. They even used them to paddle from other countries when they first came to New Zealand. Waka were paddled by strong men and woman, and would carry people and supplies. Some Māori still build traditional waka today.
