The relationship developed over the years with Pt England Kindergarten is of great value. The Kindergarten teachers advise the parents to enroll their children at school in plently of time so they are able to participate in the school visit programme. Every Wednesday the enrolled children visit the most recently opened New Entrant class at 9.00 am accompanied by a teacher and a parent. If any of the chidlren have special needs, meetings take place with all interested parties to ensure the transition happens appropriately. Mrs Michelle George Team 1 Team Leader, regularly visits the Kindergarten to communicate and make plans. the classroom teachers also visit the Kindergarten, mainly during their lunch time, to start the development of relationships with the children.
Enrolled children from other ECE, if enrolled in time, are invited to attend the Wednesday morning visits with the Kindergarten students. If parents are unable to visit at that time other times are negotiated.
The students who have not attended any ECE often come from families who have just moved into the community, sometimes have whanau connections ( nieces, nephews, aunties or uncles of school students) or are the eldest members of their families. If the parents have other preschoolers we encourage the parents to take them to the kindergarten or we make connections for them to have support.
