Behavior: I strive to provide a safe and intellectually stimulating classroom environment where we develop as individuals and work together as a team. I value each minute that we spend together, and expect all students to value their time and others’ time. Therefore, we have no time for behavior that detracts from learning and teaching.
1. Always be kind and respectful. Demonstrate good digital citizenship. Say please and thank you!
2. Come to remote learning with a positive, growth mindset. Be ready and eager to learn, grow and contribute to the class as a scholar and as a person. Enthusiastically engage in class discussions and activities, and work productively with a partner or group as well as independently. Accept and respect ideas that differ from your own. Be open to making mistakes for the sake of learning!
3. Write all assignments for the week in your Student Organizer. Update as needed. Check Google Classroom and the "Q" student portal to see if you have any missing assignments. Then, make them up and submit them!
4. Exhibit scholarly behavior in each class, every day. Respect others. No copying, plagiarism or cheating! (See HPMS Academic Integrity Contract)
5. Talk at appropriate times, which includes discussions, Socratic seminars, debates, think-pair-share, book clubs and partner and group projects. Listen attentively.
6. The Chromebook you are borrowing belongs to Pleasanton Unified School District. You may use it for schoolwork, only. NO GAMING! Failure to comply will result in consequences (poor grades for missing lessons and assignments, and disciplinary action). Be careful with food and beverages near Chromebooks! Chromebooks do not like crumbs or liquids!
Any behavior or poor choice that interferes with my ability to teach and others' (and your) ability to learn will result in natural consequences. In PUSD and at Harvest Park Middle School, we prefer a restorative justice approach to deal with inappropriate behavior. We'd like students, teachers and parents to work together to improve behavior, and to teach rather than punish.
I prefer to handle discipline myself, but will involve administrators if necessary for repeated and/or serious behavior infractions that require their intervention and/or other resources.
“What would my teachers, parents and grandparents think if I did this?”
Would they be proud of my behavior?
Am I proud of my behavior?
