September 2024
Dear Parents & Guardians,
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the media center and introduce myself to you. This will be my 22nd year teaching in the district and I feel honored to be part of a community so dedicated to academic excellence and student achievement. More important, however, is how pleased I am to have the opportunity to serve as your child’s media center instructor for the 2024-2025 school year. To me, there is no greater joy or more crucial responsibility than furthering a child’s intellectual and creative development. As such, I look forward to getting to know your child and establishing a caring classroom environment of trust and learning aimed at helping all my students reach their full academic potential.
I can’t believe I am entering my 25th year as an educator! I started my career in Philadelphia teaching third and fourth grade at West Oak Lane Charter School. Three years later, I came to Pittsgrove, where I served as both a first and second grade teacher. I later became the K-4 Media Specialist serving Elmer & Olivet Elementary Schools where I continue to work relentlessly to create a child-centered learning environment in which all of my students will grow and learn to their full potential. I enjoy helping students take ownership of their learning and believe that a combination of hands-on, cooperative learning activities, and constant encouragement are pivotal to the success of all students.
Your child will have access to library materials and activities through Google Classroom for grades K-4. Google Classroom can be accessed through your child's email and/or Google Account. Just click on Ms. Acosta - Library for your child's respective grade. (See pic on left hand side for additional information).
It is very important that your child comes prepared to library. Please be sure that your child comes to library prepared with their library book/s for their library session each week and/or day based on their special area schedule. (Olivet "A-E" Day - Daily Schedule & Elmer "A-E" Day- Daily Schedule). This is especially important because with the new standards-based report cards for grades K-4, book return rate is a large part of your child's report card grade for library.
In short time, we will have the opportunity to meet face-to-face at Back-To-School Night. You are more than welcome to stop by the Media Center to see all the exciting things that we have happening. Please feel free to contact me at any time throughout the year. You will find my contact information below.
I am so excited to work with your child, and I look forward to a wonderful year!
Warmly,
Ms. Acosta :)
