The first week in March celebrates Read Across America Week,
This article will give you all a glimpse and a little sneak peek,
Inside what was happening in our elementary schools,
Check it out, it was really, really cool.
I'll tell you a story, I'll spin you a rhyme.
That explains Read Across America Week and all the good times,
Where students celebrated the love of books,
Transforming our schools into one big reading nook.
This reading celebration was such a huge sensation,
That focuses on Dr. Seuss, his works, and creations.
Did I mention how Dr. Seuss wrote in rhythm and rhyme?
Hooking his audience every time.
Page by page, book by book,
We listened in awe to his wondrous, fun gobbledygook.
So, we picked up his books and passed them around,
Everyone was reading, it was quite profound.
People from all over town were welcome to walk through our doors,
To come and read, we had many guest readers...but who's keeping score?
Some guests brought in their own books or borrowed one from our shelves,
They could choose anything they wanted to read so they did and helped themselves.
Community members, parents, and even the board came to read aloud,
Bringing everyone together which made me quite proud!
Reading can take you to faraway places,
And this week, we stopped to read in all kinds of spaces,
In the cafeteria, the gym, and even the hall,
Everyone was reading, we had such a ball!
We read with different types of hats, big, giant glasses, and even in our crazy socks,
Hey, who knew that reading like this really rocks?
So, whether you read sitting, squatting, right side up or up-side down,
Everyone was reading all over our town!
So, grab your favorite story book and head into town,
Come visit our schools, we can be easily found.
Keep this in mind, come out and read to us next year,
Put it on your calendar and be sure to be here!
Happy Read Across America Week!
